
The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing operations against crime, leading to the arrest of 23 suspects, the recovery of a stolen trailer, and the seizure of large quantities of suspected illicit drugs.
The operation, carried out on May 22, 2026, followed directives from the Commissioner of Police.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations led a joint team comprising operatives from the Department of Operations, Buffalo Team, and Okpanam patrol units to raid identified criminal hideouts, black spots, and brothels within the Okpanam axis and Asaba metropolis.
During the raid around Hausa Market in Okpanam, 22 male suspects were apprehended.
Recovered exhibits included 72 bottles of CSC Codeine, 11 packets of Tramadol, as well as quantities of Swinol, Canadian Loud, and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspects and exhibits have been transferred to the Special Enquiry Unit (SEU) for profiling and further investigation.

In a separate development, operatives of Operation Safe Delta, acting on a petition involving truck snatching and conspiracy, successfully tracked and recovered a stolen Howo trailer with registration number KK/192 XA in Ifite-Awka, Anambra State.
The vehicle has since been moved to Asaba, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Additionally, during a stop-and-search operation along Esisi Road in Warri, police intercepted a tricycle carrying 13 nylon bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
A 57-year-old female suspect was arrested in connection with the discovery. Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin and intended distribution of the drugs.
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, urged residents to support law enforcement efforts by providing credible information, assuring that all individuals found guilty will be prosecuted accordingly.
