The Nigeria Police Force in Kebbi State has arrested five suspected members of a robbery and abduction syndicate accused of carrying out “one-chance” attacks along major highways.
The suspects, Abubakar Muhammad of Bancho village in Tambuwal, Shehu Ango, Shamsu Daudu, Shuaibu Umar and Aisha Usmanu, were picked up during coordinated operations across Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, Jega, Maiyama and Aliero Local Government Areas. Police said the group posed as commercial vehicle operators to lure passengers before robbing them at knifepoint and dumping them in isolated areas.
Investigations linked the syndicate to several armed robberies and abductions in the state. In one case, the gang allegedly withdrew over N1 million from a victim’s bank account and demanded ransom from relatives before releasing the person.

On April 30, 2026, along the Tashar Hauwa section of the Jega–Kalgo Road, the group reportedly attacked a female passenger, Shamsiyya Samaila, stealing her phone, power bank, charger and Opay ATM card, from which N9,000 was later withdrawn.
The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police urged commuters to avoid unregistered or suspicious vehicles and to use only designated motor parks. He said efforts were ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang and assured that the command would intensify operations to rid the state of criminal elements.
