
Tragedy struck in Kano State on Tuesday evening after a vehicle veered off the road and plunged into Tomas Dam in Danbatta Local Government Area, leaving four people dead.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement released on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Abdullahi.
According to the agency, the accident occurred around 7:10 p.m. following a distress call from a local resident.
The ill-fated Golf Wagon, whose registration number could not be immediately identified, was reportedly traveling from Kano to Roni in Jigawa State when it lost control and crashed into the dam.
A total of 10 persons were said to be in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Emergency responders from the Danbatta Fire Service Division swiftly arrived at the scene and successfully retrieved all victims from the water. Four of the occupants were rescued unconscious but were later confirmed dead.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Shamsiya Miko, aged about 35, and Fatima Danlami, aged about 40, while the identities of the remaining victims are yet to be confirmed.
All victims were taken to the Danbatta General Hospital for medical attention and necessary procedures.
Preliminary findings indicate that a burst tyre may have caused the accident. Authorities have since urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly when driving near waterways and on highways.
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, also called on relevant authorities to urgently repair the Tomas Dam embankment to prevent future occurrences.
The incident adds to the growing concerns over road safety in Nigeria, as avoidable accidents continue to claim lives across the country.
