Tragedy struck again in Lagos as a dispatch rider lost his life in a fatal road accident along the Ilupeju Bypass, barely 24 hours after a similar incident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident on Wednesday, revealing that the crash involved a containerised articulated truck and occurred after a struggle for right of way between the rider and a commercial minibus, commonly known as “Korope.”
According to LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, preliminary findings showed that the dispatch rider lost control of his motorcycle during the altercation, veering into the path of the moving truck.
The impact resulted in severe injuries, leading to his immediate death at the scene.
Emergency responders from LASTMA, who were monitoring traffic within the Mushin axis, quickly mobilised following distress calls. Officials carried out rescue operations, managed traffic congestion, and recovered the victim’s body, which had been trapped beneath the truck.
The agency also coordinated with other emergency services to restore order and ensure public safety while evacuating the remains.

The Lagos State Environmental Health Management Unit was subsequently contacted to remove the body.
Authorities confirmed that both the truck and the damaged motorcycle have been handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and urged all road users, especially dispatch riders and truck operators, to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations.
He emphasised the importance of safety awareness, noting that recent engagements with courier operators were aimed at promoting responsible road use and preventing avoidable loss of lives.
This latest incident comes shortly after another dispatch rider was killed by a hit-and-run driver at Magboro Bridge, raising growing concerns over road safety and the vulnerability of dispatch riders on Lagos roads.
