Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a man for allegedly transporting military-grade ammunition concealed inside bags of garri along the Abuja–Kaduna highway.
The suspect, 35-year-old Abdullahi Hassan, was intercepted during a routine patrol on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in Kaduna State. According to NDLEA spokesman, officers discovered a large cache of ammunition carefully hidden in fresh cassava granules.
A total of 1,989 rounds of RLA 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from the consignment. The agency said Hassan was arrested while moving the items along the busy route in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
