Nigeria’s hopes of convincing Brentford defender Michael Kayode to represent the Super Eagles have suffered a major setback after the youngster declared his commitment to Italy.
Kayode, who was born in Borgomanero, Italy, to Nigerian parents, remains eligible to play for both countries. However, the talented right-back has now made it clear that his international future belongs with the Azzurri.

The former Fiorentina defender has represented Italy at various youth levels and says his dream has always been to play for the country at senior level.
Speaking in an interview with Italian outlet Tuttosport, Kayode explained that he grew up wearing the Italy jersey and has no doubts about the decision he wants to make.
The 21-year-old added that he hopes to earn his first senior call-up soon as he continues to impress with his performances in the Premier League.
Kayode is expected to be included in Italy’s squad for next month’s international friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece.
His decision will come as a disappointment to Nigerian football fans and officials, who had hoped the highly-rated defender would strengthen the Super Eagles squad ahead of future competitions.
