
The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed a police sergeant, Osayingbemi Temitope, following allegations of involvement in illicit drug use captured in a viral video.
According to a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, the officer was seen in a trending video reportedly acting erratically in Ikole-Ekiti on May 9, after allegedly consuming illegal substances.
Following the incident, the officer was immediately subjected to medical and psychological evaluation, alongside internal disciplinary procedures in line with police regulations.
The medical assessment reportedly detected traces of tobacco and amphetamine in his system, while psychological evaluation indicated that he was emotionally stable. During further interrogation, the officer allegedly admitted to taking illicit drugs.

The Police Command stated that after a thorough disciplinary review, the officer was found guilty of misconduct. Consequently, the recommendation for his dismissal was approved and immediately enforced.
SP Abutu reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined institution that will not tolerate unprofessional conduct or actions capable of damaging its reputation.
He also noted that the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Falade Micheal, has continued to emphasize discipline, accountability, and professionalism among officers.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining internal order and ensuring that all personnel adhere strictly to ethical standards in the discharge of their duties.
