The Nigeria Police Force has begun disciplinary proceedings against a police officer captured in a viral video behaving erratically in Ekiti State.
The officer, identified as a sergeant attached to the Ikole-Ekiti Divisional Police Headquarters, was seen in the footage rolling on the ground and holding onto a bench while dressed in camouflage uniform.
The video, which surfaced on social media on Saturday, drew reactions from residents and online users.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon, confirmed that the officer had been taken into custody.
According to the statement, the Ekiti State Police Command quickly identified the officer after the video began circulating online and immediately initiated disciplinary procedures.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Falade Adegoroye Michael, also ordered a comprehensive psychological and medical evaluation for the officer before formal disciplinary action proceeds.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, condemned the officer’s behaviour, describing it as a serious violation of the professionalism, discipline, and decorum expected from members of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Force further reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on substance abuse and any conduct capable of damaging public confidence in the police institution.
Eyewitnesses in the viral video were seen gathering around the officer as he rolled on the floor and behaved unusually in public, prompting widespread concern and reactions across social media platforms.
