Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking a significant political shift ahead of future elections.
The two prominent politicians were received at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Sunday, where they were formally registered as members. Their move follows Obi’s recent departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Kwankwaso had earlier indicated he was in extensive consultations with the NDC leadership.
At the event, the party’s national chairman, Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, presented membership cards to both leaders.
Speaking afterward, Kwankwaso explained that their decision came after discussions with party stakeholders, during which they discovered a shared vision and aligned political beliefs. He encouraged Nigerians to join the NDC before the membership registration deadline.

Obi, on his part, urged party members to avoid internal disputes and legal battles, stressing that the party’s focus should remain on national development rather than litigation.
He added that the NDC aims to build a government capable of rebuilding Nigeria and ensuring a safe and stable environment for its citizens, where people can live without fear.
