Manchester United manager Michael Carrick said the club’s match against Liverpool remains “special” because of its history and intensity, even though neither side is competing for the title this season.
United hosts Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. United is third in the league, three points ahead of Liverpool, with both clubs chasing Champions League qualification. Last season, United finished 15th, 42 points behind champion Liverpool.
Carrick took over as interim manager in January. He said the team’s improvement shows its “growing strength and resilience.” He called Sunday’s game a “one-off” and said his focus is on keeping momentum.
