
A tragic incident has claimed the life of a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Abdulsamad Jamiu, following a gun battle between Nigerian soldiers and suspected armed robbers in Abuja.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Shagari Estate in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to reports, troops of the Nigerian Army’s Guards Brigade Quick Response Group were on routine night patrol when they received a distress call about an ongoing robbery attack in the community.
Upon arrival, the soldiers reportedly came under heavy gunfire from fleeing suspects, leading to a brief but intense exchange.
In the course of the shootout, Jamiu was caught in the crossfire and sustained fatal injuries.

The Nigerian Army, through its spokesperson, described the development as deeply unfortunate, noting that the situation at the time was highly volatile as troops worked to protect residents and repel the attackers.
Despite efforts to secure the area, the corps member later succumbed to his injuries.
His remains have been deposited at Kubwa General Hospital.
The Army has since launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and has assured the public that findings will be made available.
Authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
