
A tragic incident has struck the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), following the sudden death of a medical student during an examination.
The deceased, Oreoluwa Emmanuel Adewole, a Part IV student in the College of Health Sciences, reportedly complained of chest pain while participating in a clinical viva examination.
According to a statement released by the university’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, the student was immediately attended to by lecturers and fellow medical students present at the venue.
Despite swift medical intervention and efforts to resuscitate him, Adewole could not be revived.

The university described the incident as shocking and deeply saddening, noting that the loss has sent waves of grief across the campus community.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Simeon Bamire, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, staff, and students, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
The institution further disclosed that it is engaging with relevant authorities and the student’s family to provide necessary support and to better understand the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.
