Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly killed no fewer than 20 people in coordinated attacks on border communities linking Borno and Adamawa states.
The attacks occurred on Tuesday evening in Pubagu, located in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, and Mayo-Ladde in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to local authorities, the assailants stormed the communities around 4 p.m., overpowering local security operatives before unleashing violence on residents.
The Chairman of Askira Uba LGA, Mada Saidu, confirmed that 11 people were killed in Pubagu, while nine others lost their lives in the Adamawa community. He noted that the two affected areas are separated by a river but were targeted almost simultaneously.
Saidu explained that initial resistance came from local hunters and vigilantes, who were eventually overwhelmed due to the attackers’ superior firepower and numbers. He added that he later visited the affected areas alongside military personnel.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the attackers arrived on motorcycles and operated for hours, shooting indiscriminately, burning homes, and looting properties.
A survivor, who spoke anonymously, recounted that the gunmen fired sporadically and destroyed shops and houses during the assault, leaving both men and women among the casualties.
Residents also stated that despite efforts by local security groups, the attackers faced little resistance as they outmatched the defenders.
The incident comes just days after a similar attack in the same region, where four soldiers and a civilian were reportedly killed, raising fresh concerns over security challenges in the North-East.
Authorities are yet to issue a comprehensive statement on further actions to prevent recurring attacks in the region.
