
The Oyo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime, with the arrest of several suspected kidnappers, ritualists, and armed robbers across different parts of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, disclosed this during a press briefing held in Ibadan on Thursday.
He revealed that the suspects were apprehended at various locations following intelligence-led operations, adding that critical exhibits were recovered during the arrests.
According to the police chief, many of the suspects have confessed to their involvement in multiple criminal activities, while investigations are still ongoing to track down other members of the syndicates.
Providing details on specific operations, Olugbenga explained that a case involving vehicle theft was transferred from the Ojoo Division to the Command’s Monitoring Unit on February 24, 2026. A suspect, identified as Adegboyega Joseph, was arrested, and nine Toyota car keys were recovered as exhibits.
Further investigations led to the arrest of an alleged receiver, Adebayo Muideen.
In another operation, police operatives arrested a suspect, Adeyemi Abiodun, and recovered a pump-action gun, six live cartridges, two expended cartridges, mobile phones, and other valuables.

The suspect reportedly confessed to participating in a series of armed robbery operations across Ibadan and surrounding areas.
Subsequently, a joint team from the Monitoring Unit and Akobo Division raided a criminal hideout, leading to the arrest of three additional suspects identified as Olaoluwa Ponle, Ahmed Ismaila, and Gbolabo Adisa.
The police also confirmed the arrest of a suspected ritualist, Alfa Egbinola Tijani, on April 14, 2026, in the Ogbere Tioya area of Ibadan.
His confession reportedly led to the arrest of two other suspects, Alawiye Lateef Abaniseloluwa Abass and Kehinde Ajao, at different locations within the city.
In a related development, the command disclosed that six members of a notorious kidnapping syndicate had earlier attacked a residence in Baabi village, near Oyo town, using dangerous weapons.
Olugbenga assured residents that the command remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property, noting that all suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
