
Residents of Maraban Foron in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State were thrown into panic on Thursday evening following gunfire reportedly discharged by security operatives during an arrest operation.
The incident, which occurred around 7:00 pm, caused widespread fear as residents fled in different directions to avoid being caught in the chaos.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the operation involved a joint team of security personnel, including operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
However, the exact target of the operation and the identity of the suspect arrested remain unclear.
A local source revealed that several residents sustained minor injuries while attempting to escape the scene.

“The situation was chaotic. People started running immediately the gunshots were heard. Since it was a market day, traders had to abandon their goods and shut down their shops in a hurry,” the source said.
The incident has also heightened tensions in the area, with residents drawing parallels to recent violent outbreaks in parts of Plateau State, particularly in Angwan Rukuba.
Confirming the development, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement, Rwang Tenglong, said the operation created panic and left some individuals injured.
He noted that details surrounding the operation were still unclear, including the reason for the arrest and those involved.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
