A 64-year-old man, Musa Gado, from Lufari village in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, has been arrested by the police over allegations of inappropriate conduct involving his 16-year-old granddaughter.
According to reports, the incident reportedly occurred within the family setting and later resulted in the teenager becoming pregnant.
The situation was brought to the attention of authorities after concerns were raised by community members and relatives, prompting an official investigation.
The Niger State Child Rights Agency (CRA) said the case was first reported in October 2025 by the girl’s father and the village head after it was discovered that the minor was already several months pregnant at the time.

Officials also confirmed that a DNA test was carried out during the investigation, and results reportedly indicated a strong likelihood linking the suspect to the child.
The suspect has denied the allegation but was arrested by the State Criminal Investigation Department and remains in custody as investigations continue.
The CRA described the situation as concerning and called for stronger measures to protect minors, while urging accountability in cases involving child welfare violations.
Police authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing and said the suspect will be charged to court once the process is concluded.
