Former Arsenal
midfielder Paul Merson has expressed doubts over Manchester United’s chances of winning the Premier League title next season, saying the club is still not at the level required to compete for the crown.
Merson made the comments while assessing United’s recent progress under interim manager Michael Carrick, who took over managerial duties following the departure of Ruben Amorim.
Since the change in leadership, United have shown improved form and climbed to third place on the league table.

Despite their upward momentum, the former England international believes the team still has significant ground to cover before being considered genuine title contenders.
He argued that consistency and squad stability remain key issues for the club.
United are currently behind title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City in the standings, both of whom continue to set the pace in the title race this season.
Merson insisted that rather than focusing on winning the league next season, United’s priority should be securing a return to the UEFA Champions League and building a more stable foundation for future success.
“I don’t think Manchester United are ready to fight for the title next season,” he said, stressing that expectations should remain realistic despite recent improvements in performance.
His remarks add to ongoing debate about how quickly United can return to competing for major honours in English football.
