Suspected terrorists launched a deadly attack on the Ariko community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State during Easter celebrations, killing at least seven people and abducting several others.
The assault took place early Sunday morning and targeted two Christian worship centres—First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church—causing widespread panic among residents.
Awon Ward councillor, Mark Bawa, confirmed the incident, stating that he was en route to the area to verify the exact number of casualties. While some reports put the death toll at seven, others suggest it could be as high as eight.
Bawa explained that the attackers, who reportedly arrived in large numbers, surrounded the community and opened fire indiscriminately on worshippers. In addition to those killed, several individuals were taken into the surrounding bush.
He noted that poor telecommunications coverage in the area may have delayed any immediate response to the attack.

Residents said the assailants operated for an extended period without resistance, raising concerns about the safety of rural communities in the region.
This incident comes less than two months after a similar attack in Kurmin Wali, also in Kachia LGA, where many worshippers were abducted during a church gathering in February 2026. That event had already sparked calls for stronger security measures in Southern Kaduna.
Kaduna State Police spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, said further details would be provided as investigations continue.
Observers say the repeated attacks underscore ongoing security challenges in Southern Kaduna, especially during religious events and festive periods.
