
Tragedy struck in Owerri, the Imo State capital, as a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator identified simply as Daniel was shot dead by suspected armed robbers on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred near Everyday Supermarket in the World Bank area of the city, where the victim operated his business. Daniel, who hailed from Ndegwu in the Orogwe community of Owerri West Local Government Area, was reportedly attacked at his duty post.
According to sources, the assailants approached him and demanded his money bag. When he resisted, he was shot, and the attackers fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
A witness, who spoke anonymously, revealed that the victim had previously been a target of robbery and was still trying to recover from the financial setback before the fatal incident.

Another source raised concerns over a growing pattern of attacks on PoS operators in parts of Owerri, particularly within the New Owerri and World Bank areas.
The source called on security agencies to urgently intervene and bring those responsible to justice.
When contacted, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that he would verify the incident but had not provided further updates as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has once again highlighted rising security concerns among small business operators in the state.
