
Sixteen passengers have lost their lives in a tragic road accident that occurred on Friday morning along the Lokoja–Okene highway in Kogi State.
The crash happened around 9:20 a.m. near Aku village, close to Osara, when a Toyota Hiace bus traveling from Jos, Plateau State, to Lagos reportedly lost control and veered off the road before plunging beneath a bridge.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi State, the vehicle was carrying 22 passengers 21 men and one woman at the time of the incident.
Authorities attributed the crash to fatigue and excessive speed.
Emergency responders from the FRSC arrived at the scene shortly after receiving a distress call.

Six passengers were rescued with varying degrees of injuries and were immediately taken to medical facilities in Osara and the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja for treatment.
Sadly, 16 occupants died in the crash, including 15 men and the only female passenger. Their bodies have been deposited at the Ankuri mortuary in Lokoja.
The FRSC has reiterated its warning to motorists, urging strict adherence to road safety rules, avoidance of over-speeding, and ensuring adequate rest before long-distance travel in order to prevent similar tragedies.
