No casualties recorded as firefighters swiftly contain blaze; second fire incident reported in Obosi
Panic gripped residents of Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State after a fully loaded lorry crashed into St. Matthias Catholic Church and burst into flames late Wednesday.
The incident occurred along the Agulu Lake–Golden Tulip Hotel Road, drawing a large crowd and causing heavy traffic as emergency responders battled to contain the fire.
Eyewitnesses said the truck was moving at high speed before the driver lost control, veered off the road, and rammed into the church premises, immediately igniting a fire.
Fortunately, no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded, as people in the vicinity had dispersed moments before the crash. The driver reportedly fled the scene shortly after the incident.
The Anambra State Fire Service confirmed the development on Thursday, attributing the accident to speeding and loss of control.
