Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a graduate of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) for allegedly operating an illegal arms fabrication workshop in Uyo.
The suspect, identified as Koabasi Marsodi, was arrested on Sunday night during a police raid on a building located on Idem Street, off Itu Road in Uyo.
The operation followed credible intelligence reports about suspicious activities linked to illegal arms production and drug distribution in the area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Timfon John, officers discovered that the location was being used as a secret workshop for fabricating and modifying firearms.
Investigations also revealed that the suspect allegedly produced chin-chin snacks mixed with substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

During the raid, police recovered several items from the facility, including cartridges, gunpowder, refilling pellets, striking pins, a rifle butt, filing and drilling machines, cutting tools, machetes, and substances believed to be Indian hemp.
Packets of chin-chin suspected to be laced with the drug, as well as military-style boots, belts, and a jacket, were also found at the scene.
Police said preliminary investigations suggest the suspect was involved in modifying firearms, including cutting long guns into shorter weapons that could easily be concealed.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Baba Mohammed Azare, said the command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks involved in illegal arms production and drug-related activities.
He added that investigations are ongoing to track down other suspects linked to the operation, warning that anyone involved in such criminal activities will face the full weight of the law.
