Michael Carrick
Speaking on Friday ahead of Sunday’s encounter, Carrick refused to dwell on a sarcastic social media comment made by Scholes following United’s recent dip in form.
The Red Devils, currently third in the league table, are returning to action after suffering a 2–1 defeat to Newcastle United earlier this month.
Villa, managed by Unai Emery, sit fourth and trail United only on goal difference, highlighting the intensity of the race for qualification to next season’s UEFA Champions League.
With the top five teams in the Premier League expected to secure places in Europe’s elite club competition, every point remains crucial.
Carrick’s side had enjoyed a strong run before the defeat to Newcastle his first loss since taking charge for the remainder of the season in January.
After the match, Scholes posted a tongue-in-cheek remark on Instagram suggesting that Carrick must have “something special” about him because United had struggled in their last four games.

The former midfielder later clarified that the comment was not meant to offend and reportedly reached out to Carrick to explain.
However, Carrick insisted he is not bothered by the situation.
“There’s nothing really to say about it,” he told reporters during his pre-match press conference.
“That’s just the nature of social media captions and quotes can be taken in different ways. It’s important to stay calm and understand the real meaning behind things.
“Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Sometimes things get taken from one extreme to another, but I’m not worried about it and I’m not making a big deal out of it.”
As United prepare to host Villa, the focus now shifts fully to the pitch, where both sides will be battling for a vital advantage in the race for Champions
