Nigerian music executive ID Cabasa has spoken against the widely held belief that people automatically become wiser as they grow older, describing the assumption as misleading.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Clarity Zone, Cabasa explained that age alone does not guarantee wisdom.
He noted that many people are often regarded as wise simply because they have accumulated years and experiences, even when those experiences may no longer be relevant in today’s world.
According to him, wisdom should be measured by competence and personal development rather than by the number of years a person has lived.
He stressed that experience without continuous learning can become outdated and ineffective.
Cabasa clarified that his remarks were not meant to dismiss older people as unintelligent.

Instead, he pointed out that people only become wiser with age if they are actively growing, learning, and adapting to change.
Using technology as an example, he said younger generations are born into digital systems and operating platforms, while many older people had to learn how to use computers later in life.
This, he explained, shows the importance of staying open to learning regardless of age.
