Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dedicated his Man of the Year award to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing him as the one who “discovered” him politically.
Speaking at the New Telegraph Award/Dinner Night in Lagos, Fubara reflected on months of political tension in Rivers Stat.
He said his critics misunderstood his approach, explaining:
“Some call it weakness, others call it strength.
I chose to be weak for peace, for survival, and to protect what is dear to our nation.”
He added, “Weakness is a virtue.
It pays at the right time.”
Fubara expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers State for their patience amid political uncertainty and acknowledged Wike’s influence in major initiatives like the Port Harcourt Ring Road project.

The remarks come after signs of easing tensions between Fubara and Wike, following a mediation by Bola Tinubu.
The political standoff, which began after Fubara took office in May 2023, had caused divisions in the Rivers State House of Assembly and governance uncertainty.
Recent developments, including the submission of a new list of commissioner nominees, indicate a possible stabilisation.
