
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including the chairman of a local vigilante group, following the alleged torture and death of a man identified as Ghadafi in Ahoada West Local Government Area.
According to reports, the victim’s body was intercepted by security operatives and community youths as the suspects attempted to dispose of it.
Authorities said the suspects accused Ghadafi of stealing palm fruits and other items, and admitted to assaulting him prior to his death.
Mr. Osiga King, Chief Security Officer of Ukpeliede Community, explained that the incident came to light after residents noticed a motorcycle carrying what appeared to be a lifeless body.

“We traced the suspects and were able to stop them on the road. They then led us to the location where they had moved the corpse,” King said.
The three individuals arrested are identified as the vigilante chairman, Ike Joshua, his colleague, Friday Silas, and a motorcycle rider, Obed Godlove.
They reportedly confessed to involvement in the assault, citing the deceased’s history of theft and prior disturbance of the community.
Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations are ongoing.
She emphasized that the suspects would be prosecuted according to the law.
The case has sparked concern among local residents, who called for justice and stronger measures to curb vigilante violence in the state.
