Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has reportedly been re-arrested at the Suleja Correctional Centre over an alleged dispute involving the payment of legal fees to a lawyer who facilitated her bail.
The actress was said to have been taken back into custody on Tuesday, shortly after she regained her freedom, following days in detention over an alleged defamation case involving fellow actress Mercy Johnson.
The development came barely an hour after actor Stanley Ontop raised an alarm on social media over an alleged plan to re-arrest Okorie immediately after her release.
In a video shared on Instagram, actress Doris Ogala claimed that Angela Okorie was re-arrested at the instance of an unnamed Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) over her alleged refusal to pay an agreed ₦5 million legal fee.
According to Ogala, the SAN was introduced to Okorie through a mutual acquaintance and reportedly played a major role in securing her bail.

She alleged that after bail was granted, Okorie distanced herself from the arrangement, insisting she neither requested the services of a SAN nor agreed to pay the legal fee, despite claims that a financial deposit had already been made by an intermediary.
“You have to cut your coat according to your size,” Ogala said in the video. “Angela has been arrested again. The lawyer charged ₦5 million to secure her bail.
After bail was granted, she said she didn’t ask for a SAN and wouldn’t pay, even though someone had already deposited money.”
Angela Okorie was initially arrested following a petition over alleged defamatory statements. She was later granted bail and reportedly perfected her bail conditions before the fresh arrest.
As of the time of this report, official statements from the police and the lawyer involved were yet to be released, while efforts to reach the actress’s legal representatives proved unsuccessful.
The incident has continued to spark reactions on social media, with fans and industry colleagues calling for transparency and due process in the matter.
