The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Goodnews Iberi, in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 25-year-old Rita Eleonu.
The victim, from Rumuekini in Obio/Akpor LGA, was reportedly lured through her friend, Blessing, and later killed along with four accomplices, who are still at large.
Investigations revealed that Blessing had posted Rita’s photo on WhatsApp to celebrate her birthday. Iberi, Blessing’s brother, allegedly contacted Blessing to invite Rita on a date. When Rita went to meet him, she was kidnapped and taken to a forest in Rumuakunde, Emohua LGA.

Despite collecting a ransom of N210,000 from the victim’s family, the suspects killed her.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that Iberi was arrested on January 8, 2026, at 6:30 a.m., through intelligence-led operations by the Anti-Cultism Unit, Emohua annex.
The victim’s decapitated body has been deposited at a mortuary, and the case is under further investigation.
