
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man over the alleged rape of a 70-year-old woman in Igueben Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, during a briefing on the police’s operational activities in the past week.
According to the police, the suspect remains in custody while investigators conduct a thorough investigation into the allegation. The command said the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law if found culpable.

In a separate development, police operatives recovered a six-month-old baby allegedly stolen and taken to Imo State. The child has since been reunited with the family, while suspects linked to the incident were arrested.
The command also reported the arrest of seven suspected cult members in Otuo and the apprehension of suspects allegedly involved in stripping a young girl and circulating the material on social media.
The police urged residents to provide credible information and warned against sexual violence, cultism and the misuse of social media to threaten, humiliate or sexually violate others.
The investigation into the alleged rape remains ongoing.
