Austria ended a 36-year wait for a World Cup victory after Marko Arnautovic converted a late penalty to beat Jordan 3-1 in San Francisco.
Romano Schmid opened the scoring in the 21st minute, bending a shot past the goalkeeper after good work down the right. Jordan responded quickly as Ali Olwan equalized in the 50th minute with a composed finish inside the box.

The match stayed level until the 90th minute, when Austria were awarded a penalty after VAR spotted a handball. Arnautovic stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 2-1.
He added a second deep into stoppage time, latching onto a through ball and finishing calmly to complete a 3-1 win and seal all three points.
The result gives Austria their first World Cup win since 1990. They now turn attention to their next Group J fixture against Argentina, while Jordan look to bounce back in their upcoming match.
