No fewer than 176 victims abducted during the February 3, 2026 attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom after spending six months in captivity.
The Kwara State Government confirmed the development on Wednesday through a Facebook post by Olayinka Fafoluyi, media aide to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security agencies, and all stakeholders involved in securing the victims’ release.
“Alhamdulillah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful,” the statement read.
The victims were kidnapped when suspected Boko Haram-linked insurgents stormed the rural communities on motorcycles, launching a coordinated attack that lasted several hours.
The incident, described as one of the deadliest in the state’s history, reportedly claimed over 200 lives, left many injured, destroyed homes and businesses, and displaced numerous residents.

In April, a distressing video surfaced online showing one of the abducted women pleading with the government to intensify rescue efforts.
She revealed that the captives included pregnant women, children, and sick individuals, urging authorities to act swiftly.
“We are from Woro in Kaiama Local Government. We were taken on February 3, and today is April 8. This is the last opportunity they have given us,” she said in the video.
As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the circumstances of their release, including whether any ransom was paid, remain unclear.
The successful rescue has been widely welcomed, though concerns remain about security in rural communities and the need for stronger preventive measures against future attacks.
