Germany are preparing to appoint former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp as their new head coach following the team’s disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decision comes after the German Football Association reportedly dismissed Julian Nagelsmann following Germany’s Round of 32 elimination. The four-time world champions were knocked out by Paraguay after losing on penalties, extending their poor run in recent World Cup tournaments.
Klopp, who left Liverpool at the end of the 2023–24 season, has been working as Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer. However, reports suggest the 59-year-old is willing to return to coaching if Germany officially offers him the job.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Klopp is open to discussing the national team role and is interested in leading Germany into a new era. Although Nagelsmann had hoped to remain in charge, the German Football Association opted to make a managerial change after another disappointing campaign.
If appointed, Klopp will face the challenge of rebuilding the national team and restoring Germany’s status among the world’s top football nations. His immediate focus would be preparing the squad for upcoming international competitions while introducing a fresh style of play.
Klopp enjoyed tremendous success during his club management career, winning the UEFA Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool after previously leading Borussia Dortmund to Bundesliga titles.
Germany will now hope his experience and winning mentality can revive the fortunes of the national team after another frustrating World Cup campaign.
