Two young men, reportedly suspected students of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, drowned in the Otammiri River in Owerri, Imo State, on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses said the victims went swimming with friends and ignored warnings from locals to stay out of the water as night approached.
The victims reportedly swam into the river’s deeper section, lost their footing, and drowned. One source identified a victim as Chukwudi Okwuchukwu, a National Diploma I Computer Science student, while the other, known only as Igwilo, was a friend of the group.
