The Imo State Police Command has arrested two members of the Imo State Vigilante Organisation following an alleged assault involving a young woman and her brother in Okigwe.
The suspects were identified as Ejiogu Nchekwube and Caleb Onyebuchi.
Their arrest followed the circulation of a video on social media showing armed men allegedly assaulting the victims.
According to the police, the woman and her brother were travelling to Abia State University when they were reportedly stopped and attacked.
The command clarified that the men seen in the viral video were not police officers but personnel of the Imo State Vigilante Organisation.
Police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, said the two suspects were arrested after authorities became aware of the footage.
They are currently being detained at the Okigwe Divisional Police Headquarters as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police have not disclosed what triggered the confrontation or confirmed whether other individuals may be involved. Investigators are expected to establish the events leading to the alleged assault and determine the roles played by those involved.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, assured members of the public that anyone found to have acted unlawfully would face appropriate sanctions.

Bosso also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and respect for the rights of residents.
The police urged the public to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified claims while the investigation continues.
The command said additional information would be made public as soon as more facts emerge from the investigation.
