Troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion have recovered three decomposing bodies suspected to be those of terrorists who were wounded during a failed attack in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The bodies were discovered around 9:30am on September 3, 2026, during an exploitation operation along the Jemmù-Alagarno axis, northeast of Kukawa.
The operation followed an attempted attack on troops stationed at Cross Kauwa in Kukawa LGA on August 28. Security sources said several of the attackers sustained injuries when the assault was repelled and later died while retreating from the area.
The troops reportedly traced the terrorists’ withdrawal route as part of efforts to search the area and recover weapons and other equipment abandoned during the failed operation.
Items recovered during the operation included a damaged AK-47 rifle, a solar panel, a camouflage shuttle bag, a prayer mat, an empty PKT ammunition link and a raincoat.

According to security sources, the three bodies were subsequently buried at the location where they were found.
The discovery comes amid continued military operations aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and denying armed groups freedom of movement across parts of Borno State.
Security forces have continued to conduct clearance and exploitation operations in areas affected by terrorist activities as part of efforts to protect communities and troops deployed in the region.
