Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, have reportedly neutralised 44 suspected terrorists and disrupted a planned improvised explosive device (IED) attack during coordinated military operations in the Lake Chad region of Borno State.
The operations, conducted on October 26 and 28, 2026, followed intelligence reports that led troops to engage suspected terrorist elements at different locations in Kukawa Local Government Area and the Lake Chad axis.
According to a statement by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters of Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, the October 26 engagements resulted in the neutralisation of 28 suspected terrorists, while six others reportedly sustained injuries.
In a separate operation on October 28, the Maritime Component of the task force, operating from the Naval Base in Baga, carried out offensive actions against terrorist targets within the Lake Chad area.
The operation reportedly left eight terrorists dead, while 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The military said the strike prevented the suspected terrorist team from proceeding with its planned operation.
The latest offensive forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their operational capabilities and improve security across the North-East, particularly around the Lake Chad region.
The Theatre Command has urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing counterterrorism operations and efforts to restore lasting peace and stability.
