Nigerian troops have arrested two foreign nationals, including a suspected Sudanese terrorist and a Ghanaian woman, during a security operation in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Musa Fashir from Sudan and 36-year-old Mary Florence from Ghana, were apprehended by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion under Operation Hadin Kai on July 19 in the Lassa, Dille General Area.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, Fashir is suspected to be a foreign terrorist fighter and collaborator linked to insurgent elements operating in the North-East.
He said preliminary intelligence suggests the Sudanese national maintained connections with terrorist groups, raising concerns about the involvement of foreign actors in supporting insurgency in the region.
Goni added that Florence claimed to be an illegal immigrant from Ghana, but authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding her presence in the area and verifying her claims.

The military said both suspects are currently in custody, where they are undergoing profiling and interrogation to determine their identities, activities and any possible links to terrorist or transnational criminal networks.
The arrests, according to the army, were made during intelligence-led counter-terrorism operations aimed at disrupting terrorist support networks and preventing the infiltration of foreign fighters into Nigeria.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to neutralising terrorists and dismantling their logistics, financing and support structures across the North-East.
The military also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to restoring lasting peace and security in the region.
