
At least three people have been killed following a violent confrontation between local vigilantes and youths in Minna, Niger State.
The incident occurred in the Kpakungu and Gbeganu areas of Chanchaga Local Government Area after a vigilante operative allegedly shot dead a man identified as Aliyu during an operation to arrest suspected miscreants.
The shooting reportedly took place around 10pm on Saturday along the Minna-Bida Road, sparking anger and protests among youths in the community.
In the early hours of Sunday, October 4, the youths reportedly blocked the Minna-Bida Road, disrupting traffic and protesting the killing.

The youths later moved towards Gbeganu, where they allegedly attacked some residents. Two more people were reportedly killed during the ensuing violence and were later buried.
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident and said tactical teams had been deployed to the affected communities.
According to him, the police dispersed the rioters and cleared the road to restore the movement of vehicles.
Abiodun said police patrol teams remained in the area to maintain security and prevent further violence.
He added that efforts were underway to arrest the vigilante operative allegedly responsible for Aliyu’s death, alongside other individuals suspected of involvement in the violence.
The police spokesperson assured residents that the command would continue to monitor the situation and take necessary measures to prevent further escalation.
