Teachers Protesting
Teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State staged a peaceful protest on Monday over the abduction of their colleagues and students, following a deadly attack on schools in the Ahoro-Esiele/Yawota axis of Ogbomoso.
The protesters, drawn from several public schools, gathered early in the day carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Their deaths demand action,” “Say their name, remember their sacrifice,” and “Noble teachers gone too soon.”
They demanded urgent government and security intervention to rescue the abducted victims.
The incident occurred on Friday when armed men on motorcycles reportedly invaded communities within Oriire LGA, attacking Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, L.A. Primary School, Esiele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.
During the assault, an assistant headmaster identified as Joel Adesiyan and a commercial motorcyclist were killed, while several teachers and pupils were abducted.

Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed that seven teachers were kidnapped, while the exact number of missing pupils is still being verified.
He also disclosed that intelligence reports, including a video received by the state government, indicated that one of the abducted teachers a mathematics teacher was killed by the attackers.
According to the Nigeria Police Force spokesperson in Oyo State, investigations have begun following a viral video allegedly showing abducted victims pleading for help.
The tragedy has sparked renewed concerns over school safety in Nigeria, with education stakeholders and community members calling for stronger security measures to protect schools in vulnerable areas.
Authorities have continued rescue operations as families and communities await updates on the fate of the abducted victims.
