The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has recovered about 3.18 million capsules suspected to be pregabalin in Sabon Gari, Kano State.
The seizure was carried out barely 24 hours after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf launched the state’s Rapid Response Squad.
The operation followed intelligence received through one of the reporting platforms linked to the task force’s command and call centre.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by Lamara Garba, Secretary of the task force’s Media and Publicity Committee, operatives raided a residential apartment at No. 13 Apple Avenue, Nomansland, Sabon Gari, in Fagge Local Government Area.
The apartment was suspected to be used for illegal activities.
During the operation, the team recovered approximately 3,180,000 capsules suspected to be pregabalin and arrested a 34-year-old man identified as Gregory Ogbuji.
The statement alleged that Ogbuji was associated with Seemark Pharma Ltd, a company registered under number 2012546.
He was reportedly charged under Section 249 of the Penal Code, while another suspect believed to be connected to the operation remains at large.
The task force chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, described the seizure as a significant achievement for the newly established Rapid Response Squad.
He said the operation demonstrated the importance of intelligence gathering and effective communication between residents and security agencies.

The task force also raised concerns over the growing abuse of pregabalin in Kano State, revealing that its operational records showed that about eight out of every 10 drug-related operations involved individuals dependent on or abusing the substance.
It described the situation as a serious public health and security challenge, calling for sustained enforcement and greater cooperation from residents.
The Rapid Response Squad was established and equipped to respond quickly to reports of drug abuse, illegal trafficking, thuggery and other related crimes.
Rimin Gado warned individuals and groups involved in illegal drug activities to desist, assuring residents that the task force would continue enforcing the law without fear or favour.
