
A man identified simply as Taofeek, who was arrested over an alleged cocoa theft, has reportedly died by suicide while in police detention in Agbeye, Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State.
Taofeek was reportedly arrested by local volunteers on Monday after he was allegedly found with stolen cocoa seeds. He was taken to the palace of the traditional ruler before being handed over to the police at the Agbeye Police Post.
According to the Osun State Police Command, the suspect was questioned and detained. However, when the officer in charge later went to check on him, he was found dead inside the cell.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident and said the officer in charge of the police outpost had been interrogated as investigations continue.
Police also said they were unaware of claims that the suspect may have been humiliated before being handed over to them.
The incident has reportedly caused tension in the community as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
