
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six suspects over an alleged plot to bomb government facilities in Akure, the state capital.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, disclosed that the arrests followed credible intelligence on the activities of a suspected criminal syndicate operating across state lines.
According to him, operative
s acted swiftly on the intelligence and apprehended the suspects before they could execute the planned attack.
Lawal said materials suspected to be components for making improvised explosive devices were recovered during the operation, alongside other incriminating items.
He added that investigations revealed the suspects had recently rented an apartment in the Oke-Odu area of Akure, which they allegedly used as a base for their operations.

The police boss also disclosed that a document detailing potential targets was recovered, indicating that the attack was premeditated and coordinated.
In a related development, the command arrested 10 other suspects for alleged involvement in cult-related activities, bringing the total number of arrests to 16.
Lawal noted that the timely intervention of the police prevented what could have resulted in significant loss of lives and destruction of property.
Investigations are ongoing.
