Residents of Naraguta community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State have rescued a newborn baby boy abandoned in an uncompleted building at a mining site.
The baby, reportedly just a day old, was discovered along Ardo Lane with his umbilical cord still attached, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding his birth and abandonment.
According to local accounts, children playing around the uncompleted building heard the baby crying and alerted members of the Wayas family, who promptly contacted security operatives.
The security personnel reportedly evacuated the newborn to a hospital, where he received medical attention.
Lukman Yusuf Wayas, a resident who spoke about the incident, said he initially heard a baby crying late on Saturday night but assumed the sound came from a neighbouring household. The following morning, children heard the cries again and alerted the family.
A health worker who later visited the scene reportedly discovered the remains of a placenta, suggesting that the baby may have been delivered at the location.
