
Calabar, Cross River State — The Cross River State Police Command has recovered the body of a Deputy Superintendent of Correctional Service, DSC Michael Apepende, from a drainage channel in Calabar.
The deceased, who was reportedly a personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service, was found along Barrack Road, close to the Nigerian Chronicle House, on Friday morning.
According to the police, officers attached to the Akim Division responded to information about the discovery and subsequently retrieved the body from the drainage channel at about 10:30 a.m.
Following the recovery, the remains were deposited at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for an autopsy.

The examination is expected to provide further information on the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death and help establish the actual cause of death.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, confirmed that an investigation into the incident has commenced.
He said the command would release additional information as the investigation progresses.
The police also appealed to members of the public to refrain from speculation, stressing that investigations are ongoing to determine exactly what led to the officer’s death.
