Students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), ogun on Monday observed a peaceful sit-at-home protest in opposition to the institution’s recent increase in tuition and other school charges.
The action was declared by the Students’ Union Government (SUG) after negotiations with the management over the reviewed fees failed to produce an agreement.
In a statement signed by SUG President Afolabi Temitope and other executive members, the union said it had held several meetings with the school’s authorities since the revised fees were uploaded to the students’ portal. However, it noted that students’ concerns had yet to be addressed.
The union explained that the prevailing economic hardship across the country has placed additional pressure on students and their parents, making the new financial burden difficult for many families to bear.
It said the sit-at-home protest was aimed at peacefully registering students’ dissatisfaction while urging the institution’s management to reconsider the fee increase.
Students were directed to remain at home and boycott lectures and other academic activities for the day. The union stressed that the protest should remain peaceful, warning against violence, vandalism, intimidation or any act capable of disrupting the institution’s academic environment.

It also advised students to remain law-abiding, avoid confrontations with members of staff and security personnel, and obtain updates only through official Students’ Union communication channels.
The SUG further appealed to shuttle operators, commercial drivers and tricycle operators around the campus to suspend operations in solidarity with the protest.
While reaffirming its commitment to continued dialogue with the management, the union expressed hope that the peaceful action would encourage the institution to review the fee hike and reach a solution that considers the welfare of students.
