
The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has transferred five suspected stowaways to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) after they were discovered hiding aboard a merchant vessel in Lagos.
The suspects were found concealed in the rudder compartment of MT CHINAFRIE HAPPINESS, a vessel berthed at Tin Can Island Port. They were reportedly attempting to travel illegally to India.
Speaking during the handover at the NNS BEECROFT base in Apapa, the Commander, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, identified the individuals as Segun Boyewa (31), Kingsley Chukwu (43), Joseph Judge (33), Moses Aletor (24), and Abdullahi Danlami (31).
According to Adams-Aliu, the suspects were safely evacuated and transported to the naval facility for preliminary investigation and profiling before being handed over to immigration authorities for further action.

He emphasized that the operation reflects ongoing collaboration among security agencies to combat illegal migration and strengthen surveillance within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
The Commander reiterated the Navy’s commitment to ensuring that unlawful activities at sea are effectively curtailed, noting that such acts pose significant risks to national security and the individuals involved.
He also urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to discourage young people from engaging in dangerous and illegal migration attempts, particularly through stowing away on seagoing vessels.
Adams-Aliu further affirmed that under his leadership, NNS BEECROFT remains aligned with the vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, to maintain a professional and highly motivated naval force dedicated to protecting Nigeria’s maritime interests and upholding national security.
