The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Godwin Yahaya, over an alleged plot to kidnap and kill a farmer, Jonah Isah, and take over his farmland in Zawudna village, Munya Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, Yahaya allegedly contracted a man identified as Bashiru, who is currently at large, in 2024 to abduct Isah, a large-scale farmer, for ransom.
The police said the alleged abduction was carried out on June 26, 2026, when Bashiru and members of his gang reportedly invaded the farmer’s residence around midnight. The attackers allegedly killed Isah and abducted members of his family, alongside three other individuals.
The kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦2.1 million before the victims were eventually rescued and released.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that the rescued victims allegedly identified Yahaya as the person who contracted the gang to carry out the operation.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to hiring Bashiru to abduct the farmer so they could share the ransom proceeds.
The police further alleged that investigations revealed Yahaya took over the deceased farmer’s land for personal use following his death.
The suspect is currently being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna, while security operatives continue efforts to apprehend Bashiru and other alleged accomplices.
The police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing, kidnapping and alleged conspiracy.
