The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted consignments of Captagon, popularly known as the “Jihadi drug,” and opioid tablets worth billions of naira at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
NDLEA operatives arrested a 49-year-old alleged cross-border drug kingpin, Akinbile Kazeem Aikins, on August 22, 2026, shortly after he arrived in Lagos from Accra, Ghana, aboard an African World Airlines flight.
According to the agency, a search of his carton of local bathing soap uncovered 47,200 pills of Captagon concealed inside blocks of soap. The consignment was valued at more than ₦1.5bn.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that he was expected to deliver the drugs in northern Nigeria.
In a separate operation, NDLEA officers recovered 3,900,030 tablets of Tramaking 225mg and Tapentadol 250mg, with an estimated street value of more than ₦4.6bn.

The drugs were found in four abandoned consignments at the airport’s import shed after no one appeared to claim them. Three consignments contained 900,000 Tramaking tablets that arrived from Bangladesh, while another contained more than three million Tapentadol tablets shipped from Amsterdam.
The agency said the consignments were formally retrieved on August 28 following a joint examination involving the NDLEA, Nigeria Customs Service and other stakeholders.
The NDLEA also reported additional drug seizures and arrests in Lagos, Rivers, Ondo and Delta states.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the operatives and urged them to remain vigilant against traffickers adopting new methods to conceal and transport illicit drugs.
