The Nigerian Navy has handed over 19 bags of substances suspected to be cannabis to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The seizure was made by personnel of the Onitsha Naval Post during a surveillance operation in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.
The Naval Commander, Kabiru Yusuf, commended the officers involved in the operation, saying their vigilance had contributed to efforts to curb the distribution and consumption of illicit drugs in the area.
According to the commander, the operation began when naval personnel spotted a vehicle suspected of transporting the illegal substances around Amaiyi Atani Abor.
The occupants reportedly noticed that they were being followed by the security team and abandoned the vehicle before fleeing into a nearby bush.
The naval personnel subsequently recovered the abandoned vehicle and discovered several bags believed to contain cannabis.
Further investigation reportedly led the officers to a warehouse where additional bags of the suspected substance were found, bringing the total number recovered to 19 bags.

He also appealed to residents to provide useful information to security agencies, noting that public cooperation remains essential in tackling crime.
