The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South-West Zone, and the management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Ayeni Ademiju in Osogbo, Osun State.
Ademiju was reportedly stabbed during activities linked to a NANS convention in Osogbo on Saturday and later died from injuries sustained in the incident.
However, the NANS South-West Coordinator, Josiah Adeyemo, clarified that available information indicated that the incident did not occur within the premises where the convention was held.
Adeyemo, in a statement issued on Monday, urged the Osun State Police Command to investigate all relevant circumstances surrounding the death and establish what happened.
He called on the police to examine Ademiju’s movements before his death, the people he was with, any previous disputes and other possible connections that could help uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to Adeyemo, the convention had already ended before participants and officials began receiving information about Ademiju’s condition and subsequent death.

Meanwhile, the management of Osun State Polytechnic has clarified that Ademiju was not an active student of the institution at the time of his death.
In a statement signed by the Polytechnic’s Registrar, Abiodun Oloyede, the institution said Ademiju was admitted into its part-time programme in 2023 but did not complete his registration.
The management explained that his registration records could not be found on the institution’s portal, adding that he had left the Polytechnic about three years ago.
The institution therefore appealed for accuracy in reports linking Ademiju’s death to its current students, stressing that there was no evidence that he remained a student of the Polytechnic when the incident occurred.
Both NANS and the institution have urged the relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding Ademiju’s death and ensure that any person found responsible is brought to justice.
